I was nominated for an award (and you can vote!)
ALSO herein: an important upcoming show and my snickerdoodle recipe
Happy Monday all,
February. Ugh. That is how I feel about this month. I know I’m not the only one. But we press on because spring is guaranteed to come again.
Okay, now for some news, followed by my LEGENDARY SNICKERDOODLE RECIPE. Read on.
My EP ‘sad girl summer’ received a nomination for the Newlin Music Prize
The Newlin Music Prize recognizes the best Richmond albums of the last year. To have SGS in the running means a lot to me because it’s my favorite thing I’ve recorded thus far and I think the songs are some of my best and most personal. While the winners are decided by a jury, there is an audience vote that counts as well. You can vote at the link below.
My RVA music friends are banding together for one of our own
Justin Golden, a dear friend and absolute force in the Richmond music community was recently diagnosed with Stage IV cancer and we’re holding a series of benefit shows to support his needs while undergoing treatment. He’s had to cancel a full calendar of shows and gigs as a result. I know first hand that cancer treatment becomes a full time job with no real paycheck, so if you’re in the area, I invite you to buy a ticket to Golden Fest this Saturday, February 22nd at Gallery5 to help raise money. If you’re unable to attend and want to support Justin from afar, his GoFundMe is linked here.
I released Secret Song Club #2!
Secret Song Club is the paid subscriber section of my Substack and if you subscribe, you’ll get new songs and secret recordings from me to your ears on a regular basis AND help me keep doing this music thing as a job.
My legendary Snickerdoodle recipe
I almost can’t believe I’m letting this out into the world again. But look, the weather is gross, the world is on fire and we need some comfort in the form of a perfectly soft, pillowy, cinnamon-dusted snickerdoodle (or ten).
The Recipe:
For the dough 1 stick of butter, softened 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed 1 large egg 1 1/4 cup flour 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt 1 tbsp sour cream For Cinnamon Sugar 2 tbsp granulated sugar 1 tbsp cinnamon Instructions 1. Preheat oven to 350. Line a baking sheet with parchment. 2. In a medium bowl, cream together butter, white sugar & brown sugar for 2-4 minutes until mostly smooth. Beat in egg & set aside. 3. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. 4. Mix wet & dry ingredients together, adding the sour cream last. Blend until smooth. 5. In a small bowl, combine ingredients for cinnamon sugar. 6. Using a cookie dough scoop & your hands, roll dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in cinnamon sugar until coated. Place dough 2 inches apart on baking sheet. 7. Bake for 12 minutes or until tops of cookies have cracked.
Alright pals, hope you’re hanging in there. Thanks for reading.
